How Age Is Calculated
Your age in years is calculated by subtracting your birth year from the current year, then adjusting by one year if your birthday hasn't occurred yet this year.
Age = Current Year − Birth Year
Then subtract 1 if today's date is before your birthday this year.
Example: Born March 15, 1990. Today is January 10, 2026.
2026 − 1990 = 36, but birthday hasn't happened yet this year → Age = 35
Calculating Days Between Two Dates
The number of days between two dates is calculated by converting both dates to a number (days since a fixed reference point) and subtracting. The tricky part is accounting for leap years, which add an extra day every 4 years (with some exceptions).
Leap year rules:
- A year is a leap year if it's divisible by 4
- Except century years (1800, 1900, 2100) which are NOT leap years
- Except years divisible by 400 (1600, 2000, 2400) which ARE leap years
